Our half cows are raised here on our farm and on our neighbor's farm. They are pasture-raised on grass until three months prior to butchering, at which point we transition them to a three-way local grain mix to enhance marbling. We charge $6.50 per pound based on the hanging weight, which is when the cow is cut into two halves and hung to age in a refrigerator. This price includes the cow, custom butchering, and delivery. Not only do you get ground beef at $6.50 per pound, but all of your steaks, including filet mignon, also come at $6.50 per pound!
The average hanging weight for a half cow is around 300 pounds. The finished weight you receive, ready for your freezer, is approximately 70% of the hanging weight. This average varies depending on whether you prefer more boneless or bone-in cuts, resulting in an estimated cost of $1,950 for a half cow. To reserve a half cow, we require a $500 deposit, with the balance due upon receipt of the meat.
You can either pick up your order from our farm in eastern Kentucky or opt for delivery to Allentown, PA, or Reading, PA. A typical half cow will fill approximately a 7 cubic foot chest freezer. All meat comes vacuum-sealed and frozen. Deliveries to Pennsylvania are made at central locations, such as the Berkshire Mall in Reading.
